Now….I was really tired of my fork being so soft over every little bump. I think with nearly 3,000 miles on the bike, I’ve broken the springs in completely and they are sagging.
I was looking for clever solutions and I started with changing the weight of the oil. I could tell there was a small difference, but it still was soft and really sitting about half-way through the travel of the front fork.
Someone on the Honda Trail CT125 Facebook group advised me to do an old enduro riding trick and cut two small pieces of PVC and insert them beneath the stock fork cap.
I decided not to do that for one reason: I ride out in the National Forest alone, and if the PVC broke, I’d be in trouble.
After some detective work, I saw some other posts by some riders that swore that this item fixed their same problem completely. I decided to shell out the …..and man, am I impressed!!
One, these are absolutely beautiful.
Two, this has resolved my problem completely. With some preload on the springs the bike sits a tad taller (which is really good for me since I’m tall), and it doesn’t barrel down through it’s travel on the smallest of bumps anymore. It’s much more predictable and feels much better over rough terrain.
At the time of writing this I’ve ridden a huge 300-mile route with my father and I have to say that the bike performed flawlessly with these. Sure, there were moments where I bottomed out the suspension, but in all fairness I was really moving and being rough with the bike.
All in all, I’m glad I did this upgrade and it has really improved the handling and performance of my Honda Trail CT125 off-road.
